Six and a half years ago, I joined the APEX team at Oracle. My role was to build out the packaged applications–a totally new feature at that point–and help with various other projects as they came up. We now have 40 official packaged apps, split roughly evenly between “sample” applications that demonstrate how to do specific things and/or use specific features of APEX, and “productivity” apps, which are intended to be install-and-use-immediately tools. We’ve also built up the APEX engine to make it easier to create and maintain apps, often based on our experiences with the packaged apps; the biggest change, of course, is the upcoming Blueprint App creation wizard. I’m very proud of everything I’ve managed to accomplish at Oracle, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. APEX is a great tool built and maintained by truly wonderful people.
However, the time has come for me to move on. Starting next week, I will be working for Appian. My role there will be similar to my role on the APEX team–I will be creating apps with the Appian platform and helping others learn how to build better applications themselves.
This is an exciting transition for me, but also somewhat bittersweet. I’ve built up relationships throughout the APEX community, and hope to continue those even as my focus shifts. (Incidentally, I have no intention of rebuilding WriteTrack in a non-APEX framework, so I will still be part of the community…just a slightly smaller part!)
Wow! Congratulations on your exciting change! That’s quite a platform change.
Does that mean you’ll be moving to VA, or still living in the Upper Valley?
Best of luck!
wow, that is really sad news for the APEX community. Good luck in your new position!
